Wägitalersee

To 1929, world's highest gravity dam and dam (after Diablo Dam )

The Wägitalersee is an artificial lake in the Swiss canton of Schwyz. The lake is located in the upper part of the Wägital valley and is surrounded by the mountains Gross Aubrig, Fluebrig, Zindlenspitz, Brünnelistock and Bockmattli. The reservoir lies completely in the community Innerthal - who is also single village near the lake - and is accessible via a road from Siebnen from. History

Before the construction of the dam in 1924 was in the field of Wägitalersees a seaside hotel, which led to a lively swimming and Kurbetrieb.

Because of the building of the then highest gravity dam " Schräh » Innerthal the village had to be abandoned. The church was blown up. The village was rebuilt at its present location.
