William M. Treloar

William Mitchellson Treloar (* September 21, 1850 in Linden, Iowa County, Wisconsin, † July 3, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the State of Missouri in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Treloar attended the public schools of his home. In 1864 he moved to Mount Pleasant, Iowa, where he attended the High School and the Iowa Wesleyan College. In 1872 he came to Missouri, where he worked as a teacher of music to 1875 at Mount Pleasant College in Huntsville. After that he taught this subject at other schools in Missouri. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. In 1894 he was a delegate to the regional convention in Missouri.

In the congressional elections of 1894 he was in the ninth constituency of Missouri in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeds Champ Clark took on 4 March 1895 that he had beaten in the election. Since he lost in 1896 against Clark, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1897. Between 1898 and 1904 Treloar was postmaster in the city of Mexico. Then he went into the music publishing business. In addition, he gave music lessons again and also composed some pieces. Between 1905 and 1915 he lived in Kansas City and then in St. Louis. There he died on July 3, 1935.
