Willy Böckl

Richard Wilhelm " Willy " Böckl ( born January 27, 1893 in Klagenfurt, † April 22, 1975 ) was an Austrian figure skater, who started in a single run. He is the World Champion from 1925 to 1928 and European champion in 1922, 1923 as well as 1925 until 1928.

After being despite seven years of World War break five times landed at the World Championships in 1913, 1914, 1922, 1923, 1924 in a row on the podium, but could never win the title, he was from 1925 to 1928 four consecutive world champion and this fellow a few hours before; in his first title in front of Fritz Kachler he could beat in a World Cup for the first time, twice before Otto Price Ecker and the last time before the later series champion Charles Shepherd. Böckl was twice Olympic silver medalist, 1924 in Chamonix, 1928 in St. Moritz. He was defeated both times the triple Olympic champion Gillis Grafström. In the period 1922-1928 Böckl was six times European Champion in 1922, 1923, 1925, 1926, 1927 and 1928.

Böckl was a double Rittberger first.

After end of his career as an active athlete, he moved to the U.S. and became a coach.
