Želešice

Želešice ( German Schöllschitz, formerly Schell contactor) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located nine kilometers south of the center of Brno and belongs to Okres Brno- venkov.

Geography

Želešice extends on both sides of the Bobrava in the Thaya - Schwarza valley floor. To the north of the Na Kopci rises (307 m ) southwest of the Na Pláni ( 283 m ) in the west of Písoňky ( 341 m) and in the northwest the Kozi hora ( 355 m). East of Želešice runs the highway R 52/E461; exit 8 Želešice is almost two kilometers to the northeast.

Neighboring towns are Moravany in the north, and Přízřenice Modřice in the northeast, Sokol Nice in the east, in the southeast Popovice, Rajhrad in the south, Syrovice in the southwest, and Hajany Ořechovičky in the west and Nebovidy and Střelice in the northwest.

History

The first mention of the village Chelesiz took place in 1228 as part of the foundation of the Cistercian monastery " Sanctae Mariae Vallis " in Oslavany by Přemysl Otakar I and Constance of Hungary. Here, the monastery received the villages Hnánice, Marti Nice, Ledkovice, Babice u Rosic, Želešice, Milíkovice and Všechovice and the vineyard in Loucká and the patronage of the churches in Sloupsko, Jaroslavice and Jacob's Church in Brno. Since the founding document of the monastery is not known, the document confirming the Wenceslas I applies from the year 1232 as the oldest documented proof. Over time, the place was called Schellschiz, Zelsicz, Sselssicz, Zelczycz, Zielissicze, Schellschitz and Schelschitz. 1483 was a chapel. This was extended in 1783 to the church and got a tower cultivation. The oldest town seal of Schelschicz is from 1816. Forms Schöllschitz the names and Žýlossice have been handed down from the year 1846. The village belonged to the German- speaking enclave Brno.

After the abolition of patrimonial Schöllschitz / Schöllschitz formed in 1850 a municipality in the district of Brno team. In 1897 founded Ignaz Ritter von Felbinger in Schöllschitz a dehydrated vegetables factory. In 1921, the municipality was assigned to the Okres Brno- venkov. In the 1940s, west of the village made ​​construction of the autobahn Breslau - Vienna. These were set in 1943. On April 24, 1945, the tank battle of Great Urhau took place in the area. After the end of World War II was the expulsion of the German population. Between 1948 and 1960 the congregation to Okres Brno- okolí belonged. After its cancellation Želešice came back to Okres Brno- venkov. Since 2000, the community Želešice leads a coat of arms and banners.
