Zell am Ziller

Zell am Ziller is a market town with 1760 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Ziller Valley in the district of Schwaz in Tyrol in Austria.

The municipality is located in the judicial district of Zell am Ziller.

Geography

Zell in the Zillertal in a valley, on the right side of the Ziller. It is the geographically smallest village in the valley. The surrounding slopes form the communities Cell mountain, mountain pipe, Gerlos mountain and Hainz mountain. In North includes the town of Aschau in the Ziller Valley, in the south the communities Hippach and Ramsau im Zillertal Zell.

Cell is next to joining the old capital and the economic, administrative compliance and educational center of the Zillertal. These include a branch of the District Commission Schwaz, the district court ( District Court for all the communities of the valley ), the Zillertal tourism schools, a music school, the Foundation nursing home and other essential services.

History

The foundation of the church laid monks in the 8th century, the inhabitants of the valley were converted from the Gerlos Pass out to Christianity and built a simple monk's cell.

Cell was for the archbishopric of Salzburg is of great importance. In addition to extensive land led from here the direct path link on the Gerlos Pass in the Salzburg home country.

In 1187, the St. John's hospital was built for the numerous pilgrims and travelers, from which the Foundation nursing home emerged. 1188 the place name cell was first mentioned in documents as Celles. In the course of the Napoleonic wars cell was sacked on November 6, 1809 during the Tyrolean uprising of Bavarian troops. After the end of the war of the Austrian Emperor Franz I. In cell takes place annually in the days before the first Sunday of the month of May, the ' Gauderfest ' instead, which is one of the oldest festivals in Tyrol. The name is probably due to the Gauderfest fief located east of Zell. The focus is on serving the Gauderfest Bocks, a brewed specially for the festival Bock beer to local brewery. Other attractions include a parade with floats, bands and folklore groups and the Ranggeln, a form of wrestling. Animal fights were taken after protests by animal rights activists from the program.

Important nationally for training are the tourism schools where different types of schools are offered.
