Cantalupo in Sabina
Cantalupo in Sabina is a municipality with 1738 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio.

Geography
Cantalupo is 58 km north of Rome and 42 km southwest of Rieti. It is in the Low Sabina, the hills above the valley of the Tiber. The old center is located at the highest point of the municipality. The municipality covers an altitude 75-297 m slm
The municipality is located in the seismic zone 2 (medium endangered).
The municipality consists of the villages Piedimordenti, Terra and Vallemare.
The nearby towns are Casperia, FORANO, Poggio Catino, Roccantica, Selci and Torri in Sabina.
Traffic
Cantalupo is situated on the strada stadale SS 313, which leads from the highway exit Roma Nord on the A1 Autostrada del Sole to Terni. The nearest train station is in Poggio Mirteto Scalo at the regional railway line FR1, 8 km away from the center.
History
In the area of Cantalupo there was in ancient times some rustic villas. In the migration period, the population fled to more easily defensible locations. They gathered around the Castrum Cantalupi, which was first mentioned in writing in 1037. Until 1861, the town belonged successively to the noble families of the Savelli, Cesi, Lante, Simonetti and Camuccini. Then it became part of the Kingdom of Italy and belongs since 1927 to the province of Rieti.

Coat of arms
On a silver shield, a black wolf with blue star. It is a canting arms, because as much as Canta Lupo the Wolf, who sings ( howls ) means.
Attractions
The Palazzo Cesi Camuccini was built in the Renaissance through the castle of the Savelli. Giovanni Battista Camuccini who bought the palace, where she taught a museum for the work of his father Vincenzo Camuccini. In addition, other Italian masters like Caravaggio ( Christ at the Column ) are shown in the museum. Currently (2010) the museum is closed for renovation.
