Poggio San Lorenzo

Poggio San Lorenzo is a municipality with 582 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio.

Geography

Poggio San Lorenzo is located 60 km northeast of Rome and 20 km south of Rieti. It is located in the Sabine hills between the valleys of the Turano and Farfa. The municipality covers an altitude difference of 264-627 m asl Poggio San Lorenzo is a member of the Comunità Montana dei Monti Sabini.

The municipality is located in the seismic zone 2 (medium endangered).

The neighboring municipalities are Casaprota, Frasso Sabino, Monteleone Sabino and Torricella in Sabina.

Poggio San Lorenzo is located on Via Salaria SS 4 which leads from Rome over Ascoli Piceno to the Adriatic coast at Porto d' Ascoli. The nearest motorway exit Roma Nord is on the A1 Autostrada del Sole in 34 km distance.

History

The place was in ancient times by the name of Vicus Nervae in honor of Emperor Nerva.
