Collalto Sabino

Collalto Sabino is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region Latium, located about 451 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 73 km northeast of Rome and 46 km southeast of Rieti.

Geography

Collalto Sabino is above the Lago di Turano and the valley of the Turano. It is below the Monte Navegna in the Sabine mountains. A large part of the municipal district is a nature reserve Monti Navegna e Cervia. The districts are Ricetto and San Lorenzo.

Collalto Sabino was included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It is a member of the Comunità Montana del Turano.

The nearby towns are Carsoli (AQ ), Collegiove, Marcetelli, Nespolo, Pescorocchiano, Turania.

History

In the 10th century the Turanotal was devastated by the Saracens. Probably founded surviving residents on Collalto on a ledge, which first appeared at this time as Collis Altus in documents.

1335 Collalto was a principality, the succession to the noble families Savelli, Strozzi and Soderini belonged before it came to the Barberini in 1641.
