Henry L. Pinckney

Henry Laurens Pinckney (* September 24, 1794 in Charleston, South Carolina, † February 3, 1863 ) was an American politician.

Pinckney was born 1794 in Charleston, the son of Charles Pinckney, Governor of South Carolina and U.S. Senator was for this state. He attended private schools and later studied law at South Carolina College (now the University of South Carolina known). In 1812 he graduated and was admitted to the legal profession. He practiced in the sequence as a lawyer in Charleston. From 1816 to 1832 Pinckney was a deputy in the House of Representatives from South Carolina. During this time he founded in 1819 the Charleston Mercury and was for 15 years whose sole publisher. From 1830 to 1832 Pinckney held the office of the mayor of Charleston.

Selected for the Nullifier Party in Congress, he represented there in the U.S. House of Representatives the first electoral district of South Carolina on 4 March 1833 to 3 March 1837. From 1837 to 1840 practiced Pinckney again the office of mayor of his native town from, from In 1841 he worked for the financial administration.

Pickney died 1863 in Charleston, and was buried at the Circular Congregational Church Burying Ground.
