Thomas Tudor Tucker

Thomas Tudor Tucker ( born June 25, 1745 Bermuda; † May 2, 1828 in Washington DC) was an American physician and politician. He represented the state of South Carolina in the Continental Congress and House of Representatives of the United States. Later, he was until his death treasurer of the United States ( Treasurer of the United States ).

Life

Tucker studied at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland medicine and then emigrated to South Carolina from. There he practiced and was also a military surgeon in the Continental Army. He fell on 12 May 1780 in a prisoner of war after Benjamin Lincoln had capitulated in Charleston.

He was a member of the House of Representatives from South Carolina in the years 1776, 1782-1783, 1785 and 1787-1788, the Continental Congress in 1787 and 1788. Tucker was elected to represent South Carolina in the first and second Congress of the United States. His mandate lasted from March 4, 1789 to March 3, 1793.

U.S. President Thomas Jefferson appointed Tucker to the Treasurer of the United States, with which he held the third highest position in the Ministry of Finance. The term of office began on 1 December 1801 and ended with Tucker's death on May 2, 1828th
