Paul G. McCorkle

Paul Grier McCorkle ( born December 19, 1863 in York, York County, South Carolina, † June 2, 1934 in Knoxville, Tennessee ) was an American politician. In 1917, he represented the state of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Paul McCorkle attended the common schools including King Mountain Military School. He then worked as an employee. Later he worked in Lancaster and Chester in the cotton business. After his return to York, he continued to work in this industry.

McCorkle was a member of the Democratic Party. After the death of Congressman David E. Finley, he was in the fifth constituency of South Carolina as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he came into effect on February 21, 1917 at its new mandate. By 3 March of the same year he finished the opened legislature of his predecessor. Since he did not have a candidate in the regular congressional elections of 1916, he had less than a month in Congress to give up his seat again.

After his short time in the House of Representatives McCorkle again worked in the cotton business. Since 1920 he was a coroner in York County. Paul McCorkle died on June 2, 1934 in Knoxville and was buried in York.
