- October 21: At the Théâtre des Bouffes in Paris the world premiere of the operetta Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach done. Offenbach's first full-length work, with a libretto by Hector Crémieux is a sensational success.
- November 24: The Tritsch- gossip - Polka by Johann Strauss in a Viennese restaurant in Spittelberg her premiere.
