1995–96 Scottish Cup
The Scottish FA Cup was in 1995/96 played the 111th time. The most important Scottish football cup competition, which was led by the Scottish Football Association, began in December 1995 and ended with the final on 18 May 1996 at Glasgow's Hampden Park. Defending champion Celtic Glasgow, who was able to put in last year's final against second division Airdrieonians FC, was eliminated by the eventual winners Rangers in the Old Firm derby in this year's semi-finals. With a 5-1 thrashing in the final of the Heart of Midlothian, the Rangers were able to secure a total of 27 Cup titles, the club history after the last Cup victory in 1993. For Hearts, it was the fourth defeat in a final result after this year and 1986, 1976 and 1968. The last Cup victory of the capital club could be achieved in 1956. By winning the Cup and the championship, the Rangers could qualify as a double winner for the 1996/97 Champions League campaign.
