Season opener at the Hockenheimring

At the start of the season at the Hockenheimring, there was already in the first round to one of the most consequential accidents in DTM history. In the third curve, Tom Kristensen turned after he had ascended to Timo Scheider. Because of this caused heavy smoke and visibility was hampered on the track, so one after Alexandre Prémat and Susie Stoddart drove in Kristensen's car. Stoddart was uninjured, Alexandre Prémat the doctors, however, set a lumbar vertebra and Tom Kristensen suffered a whiplash injury. Both drivers had to pause the second race. Prémat was replaced by Marco Werner, Frank Biela Kristensen through. While Prémat could start again at the third race, Kristensen paused two more races and was replaced by Markus Winkelhock.

Euro Speedway Lausitz

On the Euro Speedway on May 20, 2007, the Safety Car missed the lead car and led several laps the field of participants in a " wrong order " around the course. In addition, a force since the beginning of the season new regulation resulted in the safety car phases in the pit stops in this are allowed only limited to additional confusion. In essence, this field was so jumbled that the safety car once again had to restart on track to provide the correct sequence restores. On 22 May 2007, the DMSB decided that due to the incidents for the race only half points will be awarded. In addition, the amount foreseen in the DTM regulations weight capacity and termination for the next race of 7 was reduced to 3.5 kg.

It should be noted is that in Formula 1 introduced the first safety car phase with those changes like chaos and even disqualifications of two drivers.

Barcelona

Before this race Mercedes had with Bruno Spengler only one realistic title contenders, who also had a backlog of ten points on championship leader Mattias Ekström in the Audi and six on his team-mate Martin Tomczyk.

In the race Tomczyk started from the pole, but Spengler from position 3 and Ekström only of course was 10, after just a few laps on rank 5, which would have been enough for the championship. Well it came out on top in a collision between Tomczyk and former Formula 1 World Champion Mika Hakkinen in Mercedes, which meant the end for both drivers. The race organizers had this disqualified (de facto consequences, as it itself has failed ) and offset for the starting grid of the next race ten places back Häkkinen.

In addition, there was a collision between the distant past Mercedes driver Daniel la Rosa and Ekström, which also meant the end for both. The blame for this incident by all parties involved except la Rosa himself attributed to him, so that he, too, was treated for the next race ten places back. Thus, the championship will be decided was definitely postponed.

In the further course of the race there were more collisions between Timo Scheider ( Audi) and Mathias Lauda (Mercedes ) and between Spengler and Mike Rockenfeller ( Audi), in which the Audi drivers were the bereaved respectively. Thereafter, Audi still remaining in the race, Audi of Rockenfeller, Lucas Luhr, Markus angle Hock, Tom Kristensen and Vanina Ickx were taken from the work out of the race in order to " prevent any of the drivers to do something that we all do not want ", so motorsport boss Wolfgang Ulrich. The race, which could only take six drivers to an end, Jamie Green won ahead of Spengler and Paul di Resta.

This three drivers had championship chances for the outstanding final race. Ex - champion Bernd Schneider has its opportunities lost by a failure due to technical problems, di Resta - who would have still had a mathematical chance as a rookie with a two year old car - should have won the race, which would have been possible thanks to the result using team orders quite.
