In the 2004 DTM season 10 races in 5 countries are held. The prelude and finale will take place at the Hockenheimring. Also, a place, not scoring for the Championship, held invitational race in Shanghai.

Overall winner Mattias Ekström with 74 points in Audi.

In the 2004 DTM season the Audi factory team managed a successful comeback. In the first year of the Audi A4 DTM, the team won all three of Ingolstatdt Title: driver, manufacturer and team standings. Overall winner Mattias Ekström in front of the Mercedes- Benz driver Gary Paffett and Albers.

The race was after a serious accident by Peter Dumbreck in which this unharmed permanent miraculously, stopped 10 laps to go at first and after a required by the drivers mandatory tire change, since all had to drive through the wreckage later (once in the motorsport history ) restarted.
