Aarberg Castle

The Aarberg Castle is a castle from the 13th century in the town of Aarberg in Canton Bern. It now serves as the administration building and houses the District Court, the Government governorship, the Enforcement and Bankruptcy Office, the Civil Registry Office and the State Police.

History

The exact origins of the castle are not known. Beginning of the 13th century founded the city Aarberg, which served as a bridge and traffic point Count Ulrich IV. It is assumed that there is also a castle or castle-like complex was built.

As of 1358, the Counts of Neuchâtel leased to Bern and the castle was until 1880 the seat of the Bernese bailiff.

1419 the building burned like the rest of the city down to the ground from what is mentioned by the former chroniclers Konrad Just Inger. In 1477 there was another fire in the castle.

Beginning of the 16th century was built by the Canton of Bern, the present administration building as bailiff based in the style of a Bernese Renaissance building.

The building received 1803 new windows divisions.
