Restiturm

The Restiturm is a ruined castle in the town of Meiringen in the canton of Bern.

History

The original castle built in the mid 13th century on a rocky chunks fall and has been expanded several times. By 1300 the tower was heightened. He was the seat of the Knights of Resti who were feudatories of the Habsburgs.

The facility is located above the Haslital and served the control of the valley and the trade routes over the Grimsel Pass, Joch Pass, Susten Pass, Grosse Scheidegg and Brünigbahn. In the 16th century the castle was abandoned and fell into disrepair. 1914 and 2004 the system was restored.

Today the tower is still preserved. The plant is owned by the nonprofit association Meiringen and is a listed building.
