Thunstetten Castle

The Thunstetten Castle is a country castle in Thun Stetten in the Bernese region Aargau.

It was built in 1713-1715 by the Bernese architect Abraham Jenner to plans by the Parisian architect Joseph Abeille for Hieronymus von Erlach in the style of Versailles, and consists of a single-storey mansion on a mighty vaulted cellar with two two- story wings wings. They form the three sides of a courtyard, which is closed on the fourth side by a roofed wall with überwölbtem grid portal.

Are located on the ceiling and the inner wall of the central ballroom as well as on the ceiling of a side cabinet 1715 created painting by Johann Brandenberg ( 1661-1729 ) from train, which in mythological excessive, the warlike exploits Hieronymus von Erlach, his return to a peaceful country life and represent the glory of his family.

1746 sold Hieronymus Thunstetten, built after the Hindelbank castle and the Erlacherhof in the city of Bern. After various owners, there was about a hundred years to the family doctor Langesthaler Le Grand, which in 1970 the castle Thunstetten Foundation sold.

Today in Thun Castle Stetten exhibitions and seminars will take place, and it is rented out for private parties.
