Spiez Castle

The Spiez Castle is a castle in Spiez on Lake Thun in the Swiss canton of Bern.

The lower part of the keep dates from the 10th century. The castle was originally owned by the Barons of Strättligen, from 1338 to the family of Bubenberg. In 1516 they came to the family von Erlach, who resided here until 1875. In the ballroom early Baroque stucco work of the Ticino artist Gian Antonio Castelli are from 1614. From 1875 to 1900, Karl Hermann Wilke of the owner, grandfather of Tilo von Wilmowsky. Since 1927, the castle is owned by a foundation.

The formerly dedicated to St. Columban early Romanesque castle church was founded by King Rudolf II of Upper Burgundy and placed under the mother church by some. Here Sigmund von Erlach is buried.
