Belp Castle

The Belp Castle is a castle in the municipality of the canton of Bern Belp.

History

After the Bernese had in 1298 the castle Belp ( on Belpberg ) taken, plundered and ripped the dominion Belp itself, forced these Ulrich Belp to the Bernese civil rights and allowed him to create a new dwelling only made ​​of wood. This 1783 building was called the hölzige broken lock. The rule Belp 1383 went to the Bernese Petermann of Waberen. Johann Rudolf Stürler (1597-1665) is finally the sole baron to Belp. The later Bernese Schultheiss Charles Emmanuel of Wattenwyl acquired in 1720 the barony including Castle of Hans Georg von Muralt. Wattenwyls grandson Charles Albert Salomon von Wattenwyl sold the castle including the rule in 1810 to the newly created Canton of Bern after the sovereign rights were forfeited in 1798. Bern taught here the official home for the newly created Office Seftigen. Construction

The seat of power is described at the beginning of the 16th century as a Steininger huss at the Gürben in a tree garden.
