Bremgarten Castle

The Bremgarten Castle is a castle from the 16th century in the town of Bremgarten in Bern in the canton of Bern, in Switzerland.

History

In March 1298, after the battle in the vale of the Bernese attacked the nearby of the present castle Castle of the Lords of Bremgarten and destroyed the town of today vanished. 1306 sold the Bremgarten of the rule to the Johanniterhaus Münchenbuchsee, which remained in their possession until the secularization in 1528. The last Commander ( 1508-1529 ) of Peter Englisberg, handed over the rule of the city of Bern and received life-long right to live in the castle. Bern offered in the same year the rule of the Schultheiss Hansfranz Nageli as a reward for his services to the conquest of Vaud on. He took over after the death Englisbergs 1545 for 5000 pounds, the castle and festivals. 1549 was the southern extension to which the coat of arms Nageli and his two wives is attached. From 1592 to 1727 the castle remained in the possession of the family Kirchberger. During the reign ( 1745-1761 ) of Margaret of Wattenwyl the sculptor Johann August Nahl adorned from the Salon of the newly built castle. The present baroque building with its spacious gardens had developed. Under Albrecht Term Ching's reign ( 1766-1798 ), the first structural expansion Bremgartens took place. With the revolution of 1798, the sovereign rights were abolished in the canton of Bern. The castle came into the episode in changing hands and was at times a restaurant. Today the castle is privately owned and carefully maintained.

Artists in the castle

The Swiss painter Ricco grew up in Bremgarten castle, where his parents Max and Tilli Wassmer celebrated lavish parties with poets, painters and composers. Hermann Hesse described the poetic atmosphere in the story " Journey to the East ". Mrs. Wassmer Tilli - Zurlinden was also patroness for the renovation of the church Bremgarten 1924 by Louis Moilliet.
