Thun Castle

The Thun Castle is a castle above the city of Thun, Canton of Bern, Switzerland.

The still existing huge Donjon was built around 1190 by Duke Berthold V of Zahringen and already went to 1218 to the Counts of Kyburg, which extended the castle to the top floor today. Since 1375 it is Bernese Headquarters and since 1888 it houses a historical museum.

In the courtyard there is a 31.6m deep Sodbrunnen. On the walls of older predecessors of the keep was built in 1429 west of the so-called New Castle. This was built in the late Gothic style building official and residential premises of the Bernese Schultheissen were housed.
