Apremont (Ain)

Apremont is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Apremont located at 900 meters above sea level. M., about six kilometers south of the city Oyonnax (air line). The farming village extends in the Haut- Bugey, in the Jura region, in a valley at the headwaters of Ange, at the western foot of Mont Burdet, north of the deep cluse de Nantua.

History

Is first mentioned Apremont in 1237 under the Latin name apud Asperum Montem. Over time, the spelling on Aspremont ( 1394) and Apud Asperomontem ( 1437) to the present name changed. The place name is derived from the Latin words asper ( rough, bumpy, uneven ) and mons (mountain ) together.

Since the 13th century Apremont formed its own little rule, which was under the Lords of Thoire -Villars and 1402 came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon Apremont arrived in 1601 to France.

Attractions

The village church of Apremont ( in the district of Petit Vallon ) was built in 1820. From the former medieval castle ruins are preserved; It also includes remains of the former church.

With 374 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Apremont is one of the small communities of the department of Ain.
