Arzier-Le Muids

Arzier - ARZIER is the proposed new name of the political community in the district of Nyon in the canton Arzier of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Arzier is located on 870 m above sea level. M., 9 km north of the district main town Nyon ( straight line ). The village stretches along the Jura south slope below the Molard, between the valleys of the Ruisseau d' Oujon in the west and the Ruisseau de la Combe in the east, in a scenic location around 500 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva.

The area of ​​51.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Vaud Jura. In the southeastern part of the Jura south slope of Arzier above the Bois de Chenes belong to communal land, bounded on the east by the deep valley of the Ruisseau de la Combe; west of the Ruisseau d' Oujon is the forested slope Côtes de Genolier. To the northwest, the area extends over the height of the Molard ( 1,044 m above sea level. M. ) and the Bois d' Oujon on the broad crest of the Jura. Population

With 2349 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Arzier belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 78.5 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 8.0 % and 6.9 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Arzier amounted in 1850 to 443 residents in 1960 to 342 inhabitants. Only after 1970 (459 inhabitants) began a massive population increase: Arzier counted 1980 857 1990 1446 inhabitants and inhabitants.

Economy

Arzier was until the mid-20th century embossed mainly by agriculture village. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1306 under the name Argie. Also in the 14th century the spellings Argier, Arsie and Arsier published. The place name probably goes back to the usual during the Merovingian period personal names Aredius or Aregius.

The village owes its development to the Carthusian monastery founded in 1146 Oujon on the Jura ridge above Arzier. To make the wilderness under cultivation, the monks granted the settlers from 1304 an extensive tax-exemption. Also the hamlet ARZIER is mentioned in 1250 as Au Muis in the monastery property. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Arzier came under the administration of the bailiwick of Nyon. The monastic property was confiscated, and the building fell into disrepair over time. As the community increasingly impoverished and was no longer able to afford the fees to Bern, Bern transferred the rule in 1664 to the village and gave up more income. Arzier had thus apply only contributions to the Bailiwick of Nyon, which laid the foundation was laid for the relative prosperity in the 18th century thanks to the forest economy.
