Bad Boy is the eighth album, or the seventh studio album by Ringo Starr after the breakup of the Beatles. It was on 16 June 1978 in the UK (USA: April 17, 1978) published. In the U.S., the album reached # 129 in the UK and in Germany it could not be placed in the charts.

Genesis

Despite the commercial Mißerfolgs the album Ringo the 4th Ringo Starr decided to retain the concept and waived again on the support of prominent friends, it only contributed a studio musician in the musical accompaniment, they are only called under pseudonyms.

Atlantic Records in the U.S. decided after the failure of the album Ringo the 4th record deal in the U.S. to end with Ringo Starr, Polydor followed with the completion of the record deal in the UK after the release of the album Scouse the Mouse, so Ringo Starr for this album a new contract with " Portrait Records " graduated. In countries outside the United Kingdom, where the album Scouse the Mouse did not appear, the album Bad Boy has been released by Polydor.

In advance of the album Ringo Starr took on the songs of Simple Life and I Love My Suit, which have been used for advertising purposes in Japan and have been released on bootlegs.

The recordings for Bad Boy extended from November 1977 to March 1978, with the majority of the recordings was completed in November 1977 within ten days in Canada. Ringo Starr added with Vini Poncia in only two of the ten compositions, one of the eight foreign compositions, Where Did Our Love Go, 1964 was a hit for the Supremes. The song A Man Like Me is a remake of A Mouse Like Me, which was released on the album Scouse the Mouse. After the album's release the record contract was not renewed with Polydor.

The designer of the cover was John Kosh. The cover photos were taken by Ringo Starr and his girlfriend Nancy Andrews.

The first single Lipstick Traces (On a Cigarette ) / Old Time Relovin ' ( Edit) appeared in April 1978 in the U.S., reaching no placement in the charts.

Heart on My Sleeve

As a second single Heart on My Sleeve appeared ( Edit) / Who Needs a Heart in July 1978 in the U.S. and in turn reached no placement in the charts.

Tonight

The first single in the UK Tonight / Heart on My Sleeve was published in July 1978, which was unable to place in the charts.

Bad Boy (EP)

In Germany, no single was released, but an EP with the songs Lipstick Traces (On a Cigarette ) / Bad Boy / Tonight / Who Needs a Heart / Old Time Relovin ' sold, but as mentioned on the cover, the words " Club Selection" is, it is not unlikely that the EP was available only through a book club.

Between February and March 1978 Ringo Starr took a one-hour TV movie, under the title Ringo. The film was inspired by Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper and told the story of a rich pop stars ( Ringo Starr ), who can no longer stand the pressure to succeed and the place with a poor man named " Ognir Rrats " trucks. Ringo Starr played a double role: himself and " Ognir Rrats ". Despite well-known actor, like Carrie Fisher, Vincent Price and John Ritter as well as the participation of George Harrison in the function of the narrator, the show was not a success and a positive publicity for the album never materialized. The broadcast in the U.S. on NBC in April 1978 film comprised, besides songs from older solo and Beatles albums, three titles of his latest LP Bad Boy ( Heart on My Sleeve, Hard Times and A Man Like Me).

Reissues

First published in CD format was made in the U.S. by Epic Records in March 1991 without bonus tracks. The CD release of 1991 has not yet been newly remastered.
