Ringo Rama is the twenty-first album, or the thirteenth studio album by Ringo Starr after the breakup of the Beatles. It was on 25 March 2003 in Europe (USA: March 24, 2003) published. It arrived in the U.S. at number 113 in Germany and the UK, it could not be placed in the charts.

Genesis

After the release of his studio album, I Wanna Be Santa Claus in October 1999, which exclusively contained Christmas songs, Ringo Starr, the musical concept of Vertical Man decided to continue. It is the third studio album, Mark Hudson and Ringo Starr -produced together. The vast composition work was carried out again by Ringo Starr, Mark Hudson, Steve Dudas and Dean Grakal. Further, in turn, were prominent musicians such as David Gilmour, Eric Clapton and Willie Nelson contributed to this album.

The few details about the album are from an interview with Jody Denberg, which has been published in November 2003 as part of the U.S. Deluxe Edition. According to a statement by Ringo Starr total of sixteen songs were recorded, eleven of them. Predominantly in the UK in Rocca Bella Studio and five in Los Angeles in the U.S. The recording data for the album are not documented, they probably ranged between the spring of 2002 and the autumn / winter of 2002, this period can be seen from the interview. In 2002, Ringo Starr was not on tour with the All- Starr Band.

The mixing of the songs took place at the Astoria Studios.

The song Never Without You wanted Ringo Starr originally write to the memory of John Lennon, George Harrison and Harry Nilsson, but then he decided to exclusively dedicate it to George Harrison. The song was recorded according to a statement from Ringo Starr four months after the death of George Harrison.

Overall, the album acts musically more rock- oriented than his previous albums.

Ringo Rama was the second album by Ringo Starr which was released by Koch Records.

The designer of the cover was Tyrone Drake. The cover illustrations were from Mark Hudson.

In June 2003, Ringo Starr took with Jools Holland & his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra on the song Boys, which was released on the album Jack O the Green Small World Big Band Friends 3.

Single releases

No single releases were made from the album. However, it was released in Europe and the U.S., the promotional CD single Never Without You (Radio Edit) / Instant Amnesia.

For the song Never Without You, a music video for promotional purposes was recorded.

The European Limited Edition was released on 22 April 2003 and contains an additional 40-minute DVD. The U.S. deluxe version was released on 11 November 2003 and receives in addition to three previously unreleased songs additionally an interview CD, which appeared already in advance as a promotional interview CD and a 70-minute DVD.

Reissues

The CD release from 2003 has not yet been newly remastered.
