Badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Qualification

Before the Summer Olympics of 2008, many qualifying tournaments were held in badminton.

Qualification criteria

Main qualifying criterion was the Badminton World Ranking Qualified with state from 1 May 2008 were automatically each 38 starters in the individual disciplines and each 16 starters in the double disciplines.:

  • Parking 1-4, insofar as the NOC not already three starting places is in the respective discipline.
  • Places 5-16, insofar as the NOC does not already two places is in the respective discipline.
  • 17 places to reach the maximum number of starters, so far as the NOC is not already occupied a spot in the respective discipline.

Each continental federation was further provides a starting place for the highest scoring entries per discipline guaranteed insofar as the place was not already backed by the world rankings. No starter is in the rankings, so the last winner of the continental championships got the right to start. The hosts were given at least two places. Two wild cards were awarded by the IOC Tripartite Commission.
