Barsbek

Barsbek is a municipality in the district of Plön, in Schleswig- Holstein

Geography and transport

Barsbek is located about 15 km northeast of Kiel and about 3 km west of Schoenberg on the main road 502 from Kiel to Luetjenburg.

The municipality is the nature reserve Barsbeker lake.

History

The place Barsbek was first mentioned in 1281. The place name means perch creek.

Beginning of the 14th century was the sovereign Bramhorst castle near the village, which was under the lords. As of 1383, the entire village belonged to the monastery Preetz.

On April 29, 1957 burned by arson by a firefighter from a large proportion of with thatched cottages. The firelight was seen to Kiel. Due to shortage of water the fire departments of other municipalities could not sufficiently help.
