Wittmoldt

Wittmoldt is a municipality in the district of Plön, in Schleswig- Holstein. The municipal area includes the goods and Wittmoldt Güsdorf and the districts Eichhorst and Wittmoldt settlement.

Geography, transport and economy

Wittmoldt is located on the Schwentine about 3 km west of Ploen. On the eastern edge of the municipality is the federal highway 76 runs Moreover, the European long-distance hiking trails lead E1 and E6 by Wittmoldt.

The community is dominated by agriculture, 78 % of the municipality is agricultural land, another 17% forest and water areas. In the field of Güsdorfer ponds (since 1993 owned by Marius Boeger Foundation) is with 392 breeding pairs (2012 ), the largest inland breeding area of the cormorant in Schleswig -Holstein.

In Wittmoldt there are several farms for dairy farming and agriculture, an agricultural machinery operation and a training stables of former world class show jumper Peter Luther.

History

Wittmoldt was first mentioned in 1281 as " Wotmolte ". The name is altpolabischen origin and refers to the "deep in the river ."

From the previous Wittmoldter forest glass production today remains in the northern German glass collection at the Museum of Plön district have been preserved.

The estates Wittmoldt and Güsdorf originate in its present form from the period around 1800. The former dairy farm on Good Wittmoldt was built around 1780, the gatehouse in 1808 and the manor in 1895, while the manor Güsdorf was built in 1928. The former farm workers settlement with brick half-timbered cottages, which makes up the center of Wittmoldt today, was also built in 1800. Probably the most prominent guest on the Good Wittmoldt was, after his release from imprisonment in the fortress Olomouc, for a few days of the Marquis de La Fayette. Later held the North German illustrator and children's book author Fanny von Bernstorff also on Good Wittmoldt.

The estate was originally Wittmoldt on an island. In 1750, a strong connection was created to the shore, as the Duke of Plön claimed all the islands in the lakes as the property itself. Only since the construction of the road from Preetz to Plön Wittmoldt is also opened landside: Until 1863/64, was the ferry from the Gutsinsel after Dörnick the only transport connection. Today's link road was paved the mid-1960s.
