Béard-Géovreissiat

Béard - Géovreissiat (until 2008 Géovreissiat ) is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Béard - Géovreissiat is located on 560 m above sea level, about eleven kilometers southwest of the city Oyonnax (air line). The village is located in the northern Bugey, on a sloping hillside above the valley floor to the west of the Oignin, in the Jura.

The area of ​​4.69 km2 municipal area includes a portion of the southern French Jura. The southern boundary runs along the main road that leads from Nantua to Bourg -en- Bresse and lies in the plane of Brion. From here, the municipality's area extends northward to the adjacent heights of Bois de Ban and Mollard de Bretonne between Géovreissiat and Montréal. In the latter, the highest point of the municipality is achieved with 724 m. The western boundary is formed by the winding course of the Oignin which emerges here from the plane of Brion, flows through a slightly deepened in the surrounding valley and then reaches the basin of Izernore.

The community consists of three parts:

  • Géovreissiat (560 m) in a trough southwest of the Mollard de Bretonne
  • Béard (490 m) at the gorge of the Oignin north of the plain of Brion
  • Saint- Germain -de- Béard (490 m) on the plateau east of the Oignin

Neighboring communities of Béard - Géovreissiat are Izernore in the north, Montréal- la- Cluse in the east, the south and Brion Nurieux - Volognat in the West.

History

Since the 12th century Géovreissiat formed a parish, which was initially dependent on Belley, then from Nantua monastery. The village was under the rule of the Thoire -Villars and from 1402 under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon Géovreissiat arrived in 1601 to France. To a field change occurred in 1845, when Brion was separated from Géovreissiat and raised to an independent municipality. By decree of 3 October 2008, the municipality in Béard - Géovreissiat has been renamed.

Attractions

The village of Saint-Martin church was rebuilt in the 19th century.

Population

With 950 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Béard - Géovreissiat one of the smaller communities of the department of Ain. Since the early 1960s, a striking increase in population was noted, associated with a tripling of the population.

Economy and infrastructure

Béard - Géovreissiat was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. In addition, there are now a number of companies of small and medium industries, including a power plant. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village region has a very well developed. It is close to the road department D979 that runs from Nantua to Bourg -en- Bresse. Another road connection with Izernore. The nearest links to the motorway A404 ( Saint -Martin- du- Frêne - Oyonnax ) is located at a distance of about 3 km.
