Carpino

Carpino is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4320 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Foggia in Apulia. The community is located about 50 kilometers northeast of Foggia in the Gargano National Park. The Lago di Varano is about 5 kilometers away. Carpino is part of the Comunità Montana del Gargano.

History

The village was probably built in the 11th century. Mention is the community for the first time 1144. Impressive are the remains of the Norman Castells from this period and the Romanesque church, which is dedicated to Cyril of Alexandria.

Economy and Transport

Through the olive trees, the community also has the unofficial title of Città d' Olio. Through the municipal area leads the Strada Statale 89 Garganica. A train station is located just outside the hamlet towards Lago di Varano on the railway line San Severo- Peschici

Community partnership

Carpino has since 2005 an intra- Italian partnership with the community Pizzoli in the province of L'Aquila.
