Carry That Weight

Carry That Weight (German: , carrying the burden ') is a song by British rock band The Beatles, released on the album Abbey Road. It ends the piece Golden Slumbers and end up going on in The End. It is part of the existing out of a total of eight pieces medley that closes the album. A rare specialty also lies in the fact that in this song singing all four Beatles. Was composed the song by Paul McCartney.

In the middle section of the piece, the melody of You Never Give Me Your Money is taken up, however, sang a different text.

Interpretation

Music critic Ian MacDonald interpreted the lyric as the knowledge of the group that an activity as a single artist would never be equal to the success of the Beatles and that they would have to bear the burden of always Beatles past. Paul McCartney himself once said that the song RELATES of the difficulties in the music business and the former atmosphere at Apple.

Production

The Beatles began on July 2, 1969, the recording of the pieces Golden Slumbers and Carry That Weight. Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr took 15 takes on two of the songs. John Lennon was not initially involved in the recording, as it was due to a car accident in Scotland in the hospital.

On the rhythm tracks from the drums was the piano McCartney, Harrison bass guitar and Starr recorded. On July 3, the takes were 13 and 15 mixed together and the Beatles sang in this and the following day a the chorus. In addition, Harrison added another lead guitar and McCartney took up yet to overdub his lead vocals and rhythm guitar.

On 30 and 31 July, the rest of the song - including the voice of the now again returned Lennon - added. Moreover, even overdubs of timpani and percussion were created.
