Eddie Hart (athlete)

Eddie Hart ( actually Edward James Hart, born April 24, 1949 in Martinez, California ) is a former American sprinter and Olympic gold medalist.

Ahead of the 1972 Olympic Games, there were three favorites for the 100 -meter run: Valeri Borzov from the Soviet Union and the two Americans Rey Robinson and Hart. The two Americans had run each 9.9 seconds at the U.S. Trials and had thus set the world record. All three favorites won their respective forward. The first intermediate run in which Robinson would have had to compete, the Americans experienced in the ABC - TV studio in the Olympic village because her coach Stan Wright did not know the schedule. As Americans watched the live broadcast of the first intermediate run, they hurried to the stadium. In the second intermediate fraction would have to play hard, but did not arrive in time. The third American Robert Taylor came time for the third intermediate run at the start. The final was won Borzov clearly ahead of Taylor.

During his victory lead his entire Olympic career was over for Robinson, Eddie Hart was allowed to compete in the 4 x 100 - meter relay.
