Enel

The Enel SpA is the largest Italian electricity provider based in Rome. The name Enel is an acronym of " Ente Nazionale per l' energia Elettrica " ( German: national body for electrical energy). The company is a joint-stock company ( SpA), which was established in 1962 by law from the merger of several smaller, regional companies of Operating.

The Group employs over 73,000 people and generated 2012 sales of 85 billion euros.

Business

The operational business of Enel covers the two areas of electricity and gas supply. The current network operation was spun off in the subsidiary Terna was founded in 1999 as a result of statutory separation between supply and grid operation. 2004 Terna has been solved within the framework of a spin-off from the Enel Group.

In addition to the power supply, the Group was briefly also in the field of telecommunications. Founded in 1997, Deutsche Telekom subsidiary Wind Telecomunicazioni 2005 was sold to the Weather Investments Naguib Sawiris Egyptian entrepreneur.

Since April 2006, Enel is the Slovak energy generation and energy utilities SE with 66 % of the shares majority shareholder.

Since October 2007, Enel is the largest Spanish energy generation and energy utilities Endesa with 92 % of the shares majority shareholder. Endesa is also the largest private utility in Latin America.

Electronic meters

Enel has since the late 90s introduced in approximately 30 million households digital electricity meters that are connected via the power lines themselves ( Powerline transmission) to a data network. Partner is the Echelon Corporation, the technology and data concentrators supplied. The transmission is based on the LON fieldbus.
