Since Fyodorov did not want to play again in the North American minor leagues, he returned to Russia, where he signed a contract with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the Kontinental Hockey League. After only one year, he joined, as did his brother Sergei, for Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
