Flag of Hong Kong

The flag of the Hong Kong SAR was first set on 1 July 1997.

Description

The flag of Hong Kong 's red. In the center of the flag is a stylized, white, five-petal flower Bauhinien is shown.

The Bauhinia blakensis is a plant that is found specifically in Hong Kong. The red color and the inserted in the five petals star make the connection to the flag of the People's Republic of China and symbolize by the membership of Hong Kong to China.

History

1864 led Britain, a flag, a standardized system. 1865 also was the colonial governments run their own flags allowed.

These flags lead at the top of the mast (see Gösch ) and a Union Jack flying on the side of a badge, the respective coat of arms.

The government flags are blue ( Blue Ensign ) and trade flags red ( Red Ensign ). However, Hong Kong led never officially a Red Ensign.

Between 1870 and 1997 the crest has been changed several times.
