Flag of Qatar

The flag of Qatar was adopted in its present form on July 9, 1971.

Description

The national flag consists of a vertical white stripes on the left and a maroon stripe on the right. Both color fields are separated by nine triangles that look like a zig- zag line. With their proportions of 11:28 the flag appears to be the longest and narrowest of all national flags.

History

Apparently already used Yasmin Sheikh Muhammad ibn Al-Thani 1855 white- red flag with the present structure. Prior to the flag of Qatar was a simple red cloth. Since then there were several variants. Today usual brown created by the action of the sun on the original red color pigments, that have been used in the manufacture of the flag. As the national flag of the flag of Bahrain was similar, this difference was officially adopted in 1949.
