Flag of Macau during the colonial period

By 1999, Macau was under Portuguese administration. During this time the flag of Portugal was used in Macao. In 1967 there was a proposal to add the respective arms of the colony for the Colonies to the flag of Portugal. The proposal was not implemented.

There was a light blue flag of the colonial government with the then large coat of arms of Macau. The Loyal Senate ( Leal Senado ), the municipal parliament Macao, also introduced its own flag with the coat of arms of Portugal with a golden crown and two angels as label support on a light blue background, above the ( heraldic ) right floated the Cross of the Order of Christ, with the second one armillary sphere, as it is also found on the flag of Portugal. Under coat of arms and angels, there was a banner with the official name of the city and the motto: " Cidade NOME DE DE DEUS DE MACAU NÃO há outra CORN LEAL " ( "City of the Name of the Lord of Macau - No one is loyal "). The flag is still used today by many emigrants as an identification symbol.
