Use

Given the unique and controversial political status of Taiwan, a further symbolism has evolved over time. The flag is a clear sign that Taiwan is not controlled by the same government as the mainland, as it is very different from the flag of the People's Republic of China. The Communist government does not recognize the claim to power of the Republic of China on Taiwan, and the hoisting of the flag of the Republic of China is banned on the mainland. In contrast, the prohibition of the flag of the People 's Republic of China in Taiwan was lifted. This, however, actually to fly, however, would provoke a strong negative reaction.

The flag of the Republic of China, is usually not shown at international meetings at which the People's Republic of China participates.

Even in Taiwan, the flag is politically controversial. Due to the fact that the flag was used earlier in China, so that the thoughts of the ideologies of Chinese nationalism and Chinese reunification are connected. The firm anchoring of the party emblem of the Kuomintang in Taiwan's national symbolism is controversial today.

Although moderate supporters of Taiwan independence on official occasions can fly ( as the former president Chen Shui -bian during his tenure ) the flag and salute her, you can see the flag never at party rallies of the Democratic Progressive Party. In contrast, the flag drops on very at rallies of the Pan - Blue Coalition. This difference is enhanced by the colors that are shown in these meetings. In rallies the Pan - Blue Coalition experience the colors of the Republic of China Flag in the foreground, with a strong predominance of blue and some red manifestations of the parties that stand for independence, are adorned with greenery, but no red or Blue.

More extreme supporters of Taiwanese independence, including former President Lee Teng- hui, calling for a task of the flag. There are several alternative designs of a local Taiwanese Flag. However, the chances of success are not very large. To change the flag of a constitutional amendment is needed. The current flag has a large crowd of supporters at the Pan - Blue supporters and a grudging acceptance among moderate -independence supporters.

The raising and lowering of the flag is accompanied by the National Flag song.

Similarities

The flag of the Republic of China ( Taiwan) is very similar to the Flag of Samoa and by 2010 with the flag of Myanmar. To Flag of Samoa there are no cultural or historical reasons, the flag of Myanmar has been drafted by the Kuomintang in Burma policy.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing wanted to wave the flag of Myanmar Taiwanese sports fans, as it looks from a distance like the Taiwanese. Reason for this is that just as Chinese Taipei Taiwan can participate on a sports flag at the Games and the flag of Taiwan should not be used.
