František Čermák

Frantisek Cermak ( born November 14, 1976 in Valtice, then Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech tennis player.

Career

The right-handed doubles specialist has so far won 29 tournaments on the ATP Tour, the first 20 are all on sand. Most of the titles he won with his fellow countryman Leoš Friedl, with whom he formed a strong pairing from 2002 to 2007. Since 2009 he has successfully together with the Slovaks Michal Mertiňák, with whom he won the 2009 four tournaments during the season.

His greatest success at Grand Slam tournaments was the arrival in 2006 to the quarter- finals of the Australian Open in mixed doubles at the side of Anna -Lena Grönefeld. In the double competitions of men he did not get far beyond the third round.

His best individual placing in the tennis world ranking he reached the end of October 2003, ranking 201 in a double, he finished in 14th place in February 2010

Davis Cup

2005 ( lost double against the German pairing Haas / Waske ) and 2012 had Cermak each have a use for the Czech Davis Cup team. In the 2012 season, the team qualified for the second time after 2009 for the Davis Cup final, which was held in Prague. However Cermak was the final against Spain, the Czech Republic won 3-2, not in the squad. In the first round game against Italy he lost his singles match against Simone Bolelli in straight sets.
