Gorze

Gorze is a commune with 1213 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The community Gorze lies on the border with the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle, about 20 kilometers southwest of Metz. Surrounded by protected forests the place is drained by the river Gorzia, which is fed by numerous local sources and six kilometers further flows into the Moselle. The municipality is located in the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine.

History

The place was built around 749 of Chrodegang, Bishop of Metz, founded Benedictine Gorzia ( Abbey Gorze ). To 930 the monastery was the center Gorzer reform. Gorze belongs since 1661 to France.

From 1912 to 1933, the Electric Railway Novéant - Gorze Gorze joined with the neighboring community Novéant on the railway Nancy- Metz, so that the church had only a little more than 20 years after the Lorraine railway network.
