Hargarten

Hargarten is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. She is a member of the collective municipality.

Geography

The place is located in the western part of the Eifel, a few kilometers east of the state borders of Luxembourg and Belgium.

History

By the end of the 18th century the village belonged to the condominium Pronsfeld, which was under the joint sovereignty of the Electorate of Trier and the Duchy of Luxembourg. After the annexation of the region by French revolutionary troops Hargarten 1795 was assigned to the Canton Arzfeld in the department of forests. Due to the decisions on the Congress of Vienna and the area thus Hargarten 1815 was awarded the Kingdom of Prussia.
