Mauel

Mauel is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. She is a member of the collective municipality.

Geography

Mauel located in a valley in the western Eifel, a few kilometers east of the state borders of Luxembourg and Belgium. Drains will be the place of the Prüm, which runs north of the town center.

History

The place has probably formed in the region of today's Urmauels in the early Middle Ages and has shifted because of the risk of flooding. He was first documented in 1345 as " Mauwel ".

1794 Before Mauel belonged to dairy Krautscheid in the reign of New Castle, which was part of the Duchy of Luxembourg. Under French rule ( 1795-1814 ), he came to Canton in the département of Forêts Arzfeld. In Prussia, the village belonged to the first mayor Ringhuscheid and later for mayor Waxweiler.

On 1 July 1967 the until then independent municipality Staudenhof, then with six inhabitants is one of the smallest communities in Germany incorporated.
