Harspelt

Harspelt is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. She is a member of the collective municipality.

Geography

The place is in the countryside Islek, west of the Eifel directly on the border with Luxembourg. To Harspelt includes the residential places Harspeltermühle and Hubertyshof.

With 66% of two-thirds of its territory is used for agriculture, 30 % are passed by forest.

History

The first mention Harspelts comes from the 11th century. Not later than the 12th century parish church was already present. This Harspelt is one of the oldest settlements in the West Eifel.

By the end of the 18th century Harspelt belonged to the administrative and judicial district of the dairy Leidenborn in the reign Dasbourg in the Duchy of Luxembourg ( district Vianden ). In 1794, French revolutionary troops had the Austrian Netherlands, which included the Duchy of Luxembourg, occupied and annexed in October 1795. Economy and infrastructure

Harspelt has always been an agricultural center. The former part-time farms and some former commercial farms have been abandoned. The plant community is one of the biggest companies in Rhineland- Palatinate. The only commercial operation in Harspelt is a carpenter.
