Herøy is a Norwegian municipality in Møre og Romsdal Fylke.

The municipality includes the island group of Sørøyane southwest of Ålesund. In addition to the inhabited islands Herøya, Leinøya, Bergsøya, Remøya, round and Nerlandsøya also a part of the island belongs to the municipality Gurskøya. In addition, there are 359 islands and skerries and the uninhabited islands Skorpa and Svinøya with the beacon Svinøy fyr. The municipality has 233 km of coastline; the highest point is located on Gurskøya with the 660 m high mountain Sollia.

All the islands are connected by bridges. The municipality is located in the fishing town of Fosnavåg.

Economy

The livelihood of the community is next to fishing and farming a considerable fleet of supply vessels for the oil industry off the west coast of Norway. The Herøyflotte includes approximately 114 utilities, offshore and coast guard vessels and 27 fishing vessels.

Tourism

For tourists, ornithologists and botanists of particular importance is the bird island is round. Round is the southernmost and the third largest bird cliff with about 170,000 breeding pairs per year in Scandinavia. The island is easily accessible by a bridge connection ( Rundebrua ) to the mainland. Since the opening of Eiksundtunnels the community is also accessible without domestic ferry. In 2009, an international research institute that period was started Miljøsenter of the island Runde. Since 2011 Miljøsenter is part of the " Round Ark" issued. The municipality owns the Herøyterminalen in Torvik a haven of Hurtigruten.
