Hohberg

Hohberg is a municipality in Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg. The name refers to an old Won name in the center of the three former municipalities. The coat of arms shows a motif from the capital of a column found in Niederschopfheim and also symbolizes the three districts.

Geography

Geographical location

Hohberg is located about 8 km from Offenburg on the western slopes of the Black Forest on the edge of the Upper Rhine Plain.

The municipality Hohberg include the formerly independent communities Diersburg, Hofweier and Niederschopfheim. History

Diersburg

The Diersburg castle was first mentioned in 1197 as " stone Tiersperg ". The village was first mentioned in 1257 as " Tiersperg " in Strasbourg certificate. It belonged to the dynasty of the Knights of Geroldseck. 1279 acquired the Knights of Black Mountain and the location of the castle. In the 14th century Diersburg went to the Margraviate of Baden, making it one of the older Baden possessions. 1455 came Diersburg with the " stone Diersburg " to the altortenauische noble family of Roeder. Hofweier

Community Hohberg

On 3 May 1972, the community was renamed Hofweier in Hohberg. The two previously independent municipalities Diersburg and Niederschopfheim were incorporated to Hohberg on 1 January 1973.

The present-day districts Diersburg, Hofweier and Niederschopfheim belonged until 1973 to the district Offenburg. With its resolution of January 1, 1973, she came to the newly founded Ortenaukreis.

Religion

Museums

In an old cigar factory in Niederschopfheim the Hohberger Heritage Museum is housed. In Diersburg there is the Hohberger bee museum depicting the history of beekeeping. With the history of wine and the barons of Roeder Diersburg the museum is dedicated at the winery Roeder of Diersburg.

Building

In Diersburg a built in the 12th or 13th century castle, a branch of the lords of Geroldseck (Animal Berger), as a ruin has received. Since the 14th century, the castle belongs to the family of the Roeder of Diersburg, which is located in the town today.
