Izenave

Izenave is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Izenave is located on 690 m above sea level. Level, about 15 kilometers northeast of the city Ambérieu -en- Bugey (air line). The farming village extends in the central Bugey, on the southern edge of the wide valley of Combe du Val in the Jura, on the east Borrey Chaîne de l' Avocat.

The area of ​​13.04 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southern French Jura. To Izenave the hamlet Brouillat include ( 669 m above sea level. M. ) in the valley of Combe du Val and some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Izenave are Cerdon and Vieu - d'Izenave in the north, and Lantenay Corcelles in the east, the south and Aranc Corlier in the West.

History

The territory of Izenave was inhabited at the time of the Celts; from this era comes a tumulus. Is first mentioned in the 12th century as Izenave possession of the Lords of Coligny. Later, the village came to rule Rougemont. It was since the Middle Ages under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon Izenave arrived in 1601 to France.

Attractions

The village church was built by Izenave in Gothic styles. From the castle La Valière from the 14th century ruins are preserved.

Population

With 166 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Izenave one of the small communities of the department of Ain. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 297 persons were still counted ), a slight increase in population was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Izenave was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Saint -Martin- du- Frêne after Hauteville- Lompnes. Further road links exist with Lantenay and Corlier. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of around 13 kilometers.
