Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008

The 6th Junior Euro Song Contest 2008 was the sixth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest competition of the euro and was discharged on 22 November 2008. Country event was Cyprus, the venue " Spyros Kipiranou Sports Centre ", which is also called " Palais des Sports " in Limassol. The line took over the CyBC. They were able to prevail in the event rights against Portugal, Sweden and Ukraine. After last year's debut Georgia won the competition for the first time with the group and the title Bzikebi Bzzz.

Rule change

After the revision of the age limit to 10 years, there was a rule change this year. So there was in every country besides the obligatory televoting and a jury, the distributed their points. The two votes were tallied in equal parts and gave the country a result. When Euro Vision Song Contest this innovation was introduced for the final and from 2010 for all shows ( finals and the two semi-finals ), 2009.

Participant

The maximum number of participants has been reset to 18 in advance. Israel and Bosnia and Herzegovina had been announced their participation, but their participation called off. Azerbaijan was announced as a debutant, but came back in early October due to disputes with the European Broadcasting Union ( EBU) from the competition. The following 15 countries competed against each other:

The Junior Euro Song Contest in 2008 had only two contributions from Central Europe in the field of participants, otherwise a contribution originates from southern Europe, and the other twelve from Eastern Europe.

Retraction participants

  • Portugal - RTP has the Junior Euro Song Contest no longer interested.
  • Sweden Sweden - TV4 had at the time of JESC 2008 other plans and withdrew also. They took part in 2009, however, again.

Other countries

  • Azerbaijan Azerbaijan - Azerbaijan was announced as a participant, but withdrew shortly in early October after the actual closing date back. Therefore, the transmitter responsible ITV had to reckon with harsh punishments of the EBU.
  • Israel Israel - IBA was confirmed as a new member, but had to cancel because of financial problems after that.
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina Bosnia and Herzegovina - BHRT has also been announced as a participant, but said a month later again.
  • Poland Poland - TVP had expressed an interest in returning, took eventually but not in part.
