Ranking by size worldwide
The size of a petroleum company is measured primarily of the output. The flow rate is specified in the oil industry in barrels of oil equivalent ( boe ) per day. This unit allows the total production of crude oil and natural gas in a single number to express.
Sales figures, however, are suitable only for listed companies as a comparative value, but also limited, since the numbers are heavily skewed depending on exchange rate developments. Since there are among the world's largest oil producing companies mostly state-controlled companies, which are often not publish financial results, sales figures for total industry comparison are not suitable.
