Lixing-lès-Saint-Avold
Lixing- lès -Saint -Avold is a commune with 722 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Forbach and Canton Grostenquin.
Geography
Lixing- lès -Saint -Avold is located eight kilometers south of the former mining town of Saint -Avold and about 15 kilometers from the border of the Saarland. Two-thirds of the 6.3 km ² comprehensive municipal area are dominated by arable and grassland and built-up land, a third in the southwest is covered by forest. The area around the town is located on a ridge falls to the west and south from the headwaters that feed the Ruisseau du Bisch forest, a small German Nied flowing ditch. At the highest and northernmost point of the built-up area, a water tower was built.
Southwest of Lixing- lès -Saint -Avold is the fallow land with a 2,500 -meter-long airstrip base aérienne Grostenquin, an air base of the Royal Canadian Air Force that existed from 1952 to 1964.
Neighboring communities of Lixing- lès -Saint -Avold are Vahl- Ebersing in the north, Laning in the east, and Grostenquin Bistroff in the south and Lelling in the West.
